You are not allowed to have this wine. If you buy some ‘Clos Pancras’, there will be less left over for me. If you happen to talk Gary into selling some to you, you will be required to prepare an exquisite meal and invite us over for dinner. In that case, buy more bottles than you think you will need. Here’s why:
Cultivating a mere 6.8 hectares near the southern Burgundian town of Macon, young vintners Frantz and Caroline (also winemaker at famous Heritiers du Comte Lafon) have enthusiastically embraced certified organic farming methods, joining Les Artisans Vignerons de Bourgogne du Sud in 2013 as a testament to their faithful allegiance to the earth and the traditional taste of white Burgundy. Their single-vineyard chardonnay ‘Saint-Pancras’ enjoys the happy fermentation resulting from the natural yeasts that live on the grapes and aging in used, large casks. I cannot recommend this spectacular wine highly enough. For those who have never been lucky enough to experience real, true, white Burgundy, this wine will be an eye-opener and a game changer. Zesty, light, profound, bracing, with uplifting notes of lemon grass and fresh pear, the complexity and excellence of this wine for this price defies description. Lo and behold, other wine critics agree with me with Vinous declaring, “91 points. As good a Mâcon-Villages you will find any year.” (Jenny)
