Philippe Charmond inherited his 5 hectares of vineyards from his uncle in 1987, but didn't craft his own estate-bottled wines until 2001. Located in the Maconnais village of Vergisson near the famed, prehistoric cliff, La Roche du Solutre, Charmond tends his various vineyard plots with great care and without using herbicides or pesticides. He now produces a couple Macon bottlings, a Pouilly-Fuisse and this Saint Veran. 100% chardonnay, the medium-bodied white reveals classic Burgundy aromas followed by a palate of apple, pear, ginger and lemon pith. Fantastic! (Gary)
