Skurnik wine importers have partnered with a fourth-generation family vineyard near the southern city of Avignon in Provence to create their own red grenache blend called Les Garrigues. The name references the indigenous vegetation of the dry Provençal countryside famous for its heady warmth and herbaceous notes of thyme, lavender, rosemary, and distinctly untamed character. The countryside of southern France blooms with the wildness of garrigue, and this wine strikingly imitates the beauty and nature of the place itself. Full, yet balanced and dry with mouth-watering notes of cinnamon plum, sugarplums, menthol, cherry tea, and warm spices. Swirl the glass and imagine yourself seated at a sunny café contemplating the beret clad grandfathers playing pétanque in the dusty town square. (Jenny)
