'Chapoutier' is among the legendary names of France's Rhone Valley. The family has been making wines since the 19th century, but has blossomed in fame over the past 30 years under the helm of Michel Chapoutier. Michel is a close friend of the Ferraton family, invested in their winery in the late 1990s, and then bought it entirely in 2004. Over the past 20 years he has converted the vineyards to biodynamic practices and significantly upgraded the winemaking facilities. The ‘Plan de Dieu’ vineyard is recognized for its quality with the Villages appellation. This classic blend of grenache, syrah, mourvedre and carignan offers voluptuously smooth black fruit with additional notes of anise, iron and tar. (Gary)
