In 1972 Ferruccio Sartarelli decided to follow his greatest passion and invest in vineyards to produce his own verdicchio in the Poggio San Marcello area of the Marche. Amidst the rolling hills of this beautiful region of central Italy, his vineyard surrounds an ancient country house 1000 feet above sea level. The winery only produces verdicchio, historically the traditional wine of the area. The late-harvest ‘Balciana’ cuvee is hand-picked in mid-November and is redolent of tropical white fruits, linden, almonds, and honey. The winemaker recommends serving it with smoked fish, sardines, baked cod, roasted goose, duck, or turkey. (Jenny)
