The Joostenberg red blend is comprised of mostly syrah (85%), plus mourvedre and touriga nacional, planted on clay shale only 15 miles from the ocean. Hand-picked, partially destemmed, and aged lightly in seasoned oak, the winemaking technique is both minimal and respectful. The smooth, medium-bodied result displays some savory notes of allspice and olives, but also plum compote and huckleberry. (Jenny)
