The family-run estate of Hartford wines is proud of the vineyard's envious location in the Sonoma town of Forestville only 15 miles from the cooling winds and fog of the Pacific ocean, deep in the Russian River Valley. Because of the rugged soils and small yields of the vines, a rich and expressive individual personality characterizes the wines. Their pinot noir is well-adapted to the climate and evinces a supple, silky body while displaying concentrated currant, blackberry and lightly spicy notes in the glass.
Biodynamic farming, no irrigation, tightly-spaced vines, and limited intervention delivers a wine of great complexity and integrity. The winery harvests based on flavor and a balance of sugar, tannin, and acidity without reliance on industry-based measurements of phenolic ripeness. Their philosophy of high risk and high reward winemaking, hand-picking and sorting to preserve fruit quality, and partial de-stemming, all combine to produce authentic reds with vineyard character and luscious flavors.
