Matteo Ascheri leads his family domaine, originally founded in the 19th century, from the small Piedmont village of Bra. He and his son Giuseppe subscribe to sustainable agriculture in their vineyards and minimal intervention in the winery. This absolutely delicious dolcetto at a bargain price should be kept on hand for your weeknight pizza, burger or more ambitious slow-roasted duck leg confit. Dolcetto is considered the lower-rung grape of the region, but this example bursts with juicy red cherry, refreshing acidity and a spiced cranberry finish. (Gary)
