The Alliet domaine is what the French call a “grande affaire de famille” with husband and wife team Philippe and Claude at the helm, along with their son Pierre, who represents the fifth generation nurturing the vines. Alliet has raised the Chinon appellation to great heights in cabernet franc with wines that are accessible and ripe in their youth, then aging into impressive elders. Their diligent focus on quality includes organic farming, indigenous yeast, detemming and the use of cement tanks for fermentation and aging. This red is decidedly light and quaffable with juicy red cherry, a spiced cranberry sauce element, and a medium body that will pair well with game such as pheasant or duck, flatbread with chevre, grapes and arugula, or grilled meats ranging from lamb chops to burgers.
