If you are an avid admirer of old-school bordeaux but feel less enthusiasm for the plush, juicy, modern style in vogue since the advent of the traveling wine consultant phenomenon hit the chateaux of southern France, your train has just pulled into the station. I was astonished to discover that seriously excellent, old style bordeaux is alive and well, apparently in South Africa of all places. The MAN cabernetis stunningly delicious and delivers all your favorite old world cabernet trademarks, the ones you feared you would never taste again. The body is lightly chalky and bright with good grip. Lead pencil, earthy spice reminiscent of cinnamon or clove, bright, fresh red currant, forest floor, and a hint of leather round out the appeal. The French would deem this wine "gouleyant", easy drinking and approachable, and the perfect every day table wine. (Jenny)
