Housed in a distinctively handsome historic Frenchtown schoolhouse, the Clubb family has earned acclaim as distinguished second generation artisan winemakers and for owning the third oldest winery in Washington’s Walla Walla Valley. Their merlot harvest hails from two estate vineyards as well as several other Columbia Valley sites, deriving complexity from the distinct terroir of each vineyard. The result provides intrigue with layers of plum, cherry, blackberry, rose, clove and pie spices, but also an acidic note that provides lift and underlies the structure of the wine laced by fine tannins. A first-class American wine! James Suckling, 92 points. (Gary)
