Last summer I was honored to receive a visit from winemaker Martin Hofstatter, the fourth generation to lead his family’s estate in Italy’s northern Alto Adige region. Founded in 1907, the property has long been considered a highly-regarded producer. Martin walked me through a ten bottle lineup of his wines and one after another was remarkably good. Looking back, it was both the best and most memorable tasting of the year! So I’m excited to now share with you his humble blauburgunder (pinot noir) with its unoaked, medium-bodied palate of pure forest berries, violets and crushed granite. A perfect match for your Italian charcuterie board or your roasted whole chicken. (Gary)
