Another pleasantly dry, crisp, northern Italian white redolent of summertime and picnics comes from Franco Serra vineyards near the Piedmont town of Asti. Originally from the heel of Italy (Puglia), the Sperone family moved just outside of Milano and cemented their winemaking fortunes by acquiring vineyards for producing cortese (Gavi), barbera and nebbiolo in the 1980's. Their impressive values include this beautifully expressive, light bodied, crisp, clean, and floral white showcasing peach and ginger, lemon oil, and acacia. Excellent with grilled branzino, clams casino, oysters on the half shell, vegetable samosas, and pecorino over arugula. (Jenny)
