The fifth generation of the De Wet family has continued honing their winemaking craft, creating both delicious and affordable wines. The vast family estate in the Robertson district of South Africa, east of Cape Town and Stellenbosch, includes acres of vineyards as well as a very successful horse breeding business. Their bargain wines offer impressive quality and previous vintages have pleased countless Spiritus loyalists over the years.
Excelsior’s chardonnay will delight New World fans with its ripe fruit tones of apple, pear and pineapple enhanced by a vanilla bean streak. The medium-full bodied white shows restraint though with highlights of citrus zest on the finish instead of heavier butter and cream notes. (Gary)
