La Collina winery occupies a stunning setting straight out of a James Bond film protected by the steep slopes of the Apennini in a deep gorge near Ravenna, Italy. Ochre-tinged medieval houses ring the vineyards cradled by a verdant lake with breezes from the Adriatic cooling the air just east of Bologna, Italy's bread basket. Named for the Romans, celebrated internationally for its luxurious olive oil and aceto balsamico production, the region boasts outstanding sangiovese imbued with luscious berry hues, tart cherry compote, licorice, wild strawberry, cinnamon stick, and soft tannins. A lusher style than that found typically in the cool hills of Chianti. Fantastic with summer pastas including ripe cherry tomatoes, grana padano and basil, or the grilled classic bistecca alla griglia. (Jenny)
