It is difficult to beat the bang for your buck that can be found in Spain. This red we recently came across is another prime example. Two young winemakers, Marta Ribera and Andres Carull, have partnered to pursue “natural winemaking” (i.e. minimal intervention) at her family’s estate in Alicante, Spain’s southeastern coastline. Blending monastrell (80%) with equal parts syrah and petit verdot, aged 10 months in used French oak, this certified organic red features a rich plum core highlighted by floral and cinnamon stick notes. Lift your spirits by uncorking a bottle of this Spanish Mediterranean sunshine for your next dark, wintry-night dinner. (Gary)
